Problems? Give Me a Break.

Have you ever had one of those days - A bad day that quickly turns into a bad week, month or even a year?

I’m guessing you have. Don’t worry, we are in this together.

It’s in the midst of crazy that most of us could use a break. For me, I consider a vacation something I take only after I earn it. However, I am sadly mistaken.

According to Shawn Achor, a leading happiness researcher and in cooperation with the U.S. Travel Association, taking a break from work, stressors and yes, our problems will fuel progress - not hinder it.

According to their findings, vacationing people have a 6.5 percent higher chance of gaining a promotion compared to those who left 11 or more days of unused vacation at year end.

Research is proving that when the brain is positive productivity improves by 31 percent and sales by 37 percent.

This should cause us to pause and think.

Given that we all have limited time on planet earth perhaps we need to rethink out-dated strategies regarding rest and restoration. Perhaps the best strategy is for us to carve out some 'us' time? Giving ourselves the gift of time can free our minds to explore, engage, dream, and build…just for the fun of it. When we balance hard work with restoration we can ask the most important question of our careers. That question is - what's possible?
